THE PORTUGUESE IN FOUR CONTINENTS: PLURICENTRIC LANGUAGES AND NON-DOMINANT VARIETIES
Key words: Portuguese language education – non-dominants varieties of Portuguese – intercultural education
The pluricentric languages, because they had different rules of use, which are distributed more or less in national or regional geographic spaces defined, present many challenges for language policies that are developed nowadays, especially those related to education in general and, more specifically, education of languages. Referring to the portuguese language, a present language on four continents and covering as much diversity as are the people who speak it, the main question that guides this reflection concerns the ways how we should plan the actions for its teaching and training teachers, emphasizing the need for teachers, researchers and triggering agents of educational policies for the languages that they understand the need to build a new management for the Portuguese, based on cooperation and the development ofshared actions, in transnational contexts.
To develop this reflection, I willdiscuss the ideas of pluricentric language and normative diversity, based on contemporary discussions on the topic (Muhr, 2010; Oliveira, 2013; 2014), pointing divisions suffered in all varieties of Portuguese and its consequences for the development of that language as a global language. As an object of reflection, I will analyze the partial results of an ongoing project, The Portal of Teacher of Portuguese as Foreign Language / Language not Maternal - PPPLE, of the International Institute of the Portuguese Language - IILP, the executive body of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries - CPLP. This project implements actions for a multilateral management of the Portuguese language and promotes a more sensitive language education and culturally focused on valuing diversity (IILP, 2012-2014; Siple, 2014 contributing to the inclusion of non-dominants varieties of Portuguese language in the management system of this language and the promotion of education for diversity and the intercultural dialogue.
